Sensory Playmate and Adventure Sidekick
3 Days a Week | 6 Hours Total
We’re looking for a kind, quietly confident person to support 11-year-old in his after-school routine. He is a gentle, curious boy who thrives in a calm, supportive environment. He’s nonverbal (with some words and phrases) and enjoys sensory play, swinging, trampolining, and—on rainy days—building amazing LEGO creations.
This role is all about connection. He needs someone who will take the time to earn his trust through patience, consistency, and a soft-spoken, playful approach. With the right person, he loves to engage, give hugs, and explore the world around him. This could be a good fit for an Occupational Therapy student or has experience in OT but not essential.
About the Role:
- When:
3 days per week (Mon–Fri, flexible), 4:00–6:00 PM
6 hours per week, with additional hours available during school holidays.
- Where:
Family home in St Heliers – easy access via bus (stop right outside).
- What You’ll Do:
- Support calm after-school decompression activities.
- Engage in sensory play (swinging, water play, LEGO, etc.)
- Join occasional outings to the local park once trust is built.
- Prompt and support him with eating, drinking, and light bathroom assistance as needed (not essential).
- Collaborate with Mum (who works from home), private speech-language therapist, and occupational therapist to support his developmental goals.
Who We’re Looking For:
- A warm, softly spoken individual (male or female)
- Someone with a gentle, playful personality who can follow this young boy’s lead and energy
- Ideally studying or interested in Occupational Therapy, Education, Psychology, or a related field
- Comfortable with a child who needs physical closeness and may have little regard for personal space
- Holds a full driver’s licence and has access to a car
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a compassionate and supportive home environment, with mentorship available and lots of room to learn and grow. You’ll be making a real difference in one very special boy’s life.
