Life Co-pilot with Vibes – Flexi Hours & Real Impact
Ongoing, Part-Time (Howick)
Permanent role supporting a young adult with fluctuating support needs – flexible, meaningful work for the right person
About the Role:
We are looking for a reliable, empathetic, and proactive supporter to assist a university student based in Howick. She lives with several complex medical conditions. Her needs can vary day to day, so flexibility and a willingness to learn are essential. This is an ongoing, permanent part-time position with consistent weekly hours and opportunities to build a trusted, long-term working relationship.
Hours:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
- Approximately 12pm – 6pm (with flexibility depending on university schedule)
- Occasional additional hours for outings and casual activities
In this role, you'll be supporting across a range of day-to-day activities, depending on her needs at the time. Some days that might look like helping with personal care, including showering, or offering emotional support when needs increase. Don’t worry if you haven’t experienced this before – she has training videos and will guide you through what works best for her.
Support with eating and drinking is sometimes needed too, especially on tougher days. You’ll help with food prep, which can range from regular meals to pureed options when required. Around the house, you’ll lend a hand with general chores – cooking, cleaning, and keeping things tidy.
This young woman’s lifestyle is active and social when she’s feeling well. You might join her on outings to the doctor, university, the supermarket, or swimming (bonus points if you're happy to jump in the pool too!). A full NZ driver’s license and your own car are essential.
Respecting her independence is key – she’ll let you know when she wants help, so no jumping in unless asked. She uses an AAC communication device at times, and you’ll need to support her in using it when needed – especially on days when communication is tougher.
Being able to stay calm and observant is important, especially if she starts to feel faint or unwell. You’ll need to notice the signs and respond supportively and gently in the moment.
Respect for the Rainbow community and shared interests in politics, social justice, or public policy a bonus.
