Are you energetic, patient, and looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference?

We're looking for a caring and enthusiastic support worker to spend time with a friendly 14-year-old boy. He has a great love of music, swimming, and getting out and about. This is much more than a support role—it's about building a positive connection, encouraging independence, and making everyday life fun.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Warm, bubbly, and naturally engaging.
  • Patient and happy to work at his pace, not rushing him.
  • Physically confident and able to assist with mobility and personal cares (no heavy lifting required, but physical strength is important).
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and confident working independently.
  • Fully present and enthusiastic—not someone who spends time on their phone.
  • Comfortable assisting with personal care, including showering, dressing, and continence support.
  • Keen to learn, with experience supporting people with disabilities preferred.
  • Basic First Aid certificate a bonus.

Experience using hoists is an advantage, although full training will be provided.

This young man is non-verbal but understands far more than he can express, so we're looking for someone who is intuitive, observant, and enjoys building meaningful connections without relying on words.

Your role may include:

  • Supporting with personal care and daily routines.
  • Helping with wheelchair and hoist transfers.
  • Going for walks and pushing his wheelchair.
  • Taking him swimming at the local hydrotherapy pool.
  • Sharing interests such as music, swimming and keeping him happily engaged.
  • Driving the family's wheelchair-accessible van.

A full New Zealand driver's licence is essential.

  • Monday to Friday during school term: approximately 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm
  • Flexible additional hours during weekends and school holidays.
  • Every second Friday off.
  • Total 10+ hours a week.

This role is located in Tikipunga, Whangārei

Ideally, you'll live locally to make the regular shifts convenient.

If you're looking for a meaningful part-time role where your enthusiasm, patience, and positive attitude will make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
