Mentor and Support role – Browns Bay
Are you a patient, gentle and confident person who can stay calm when things get a little overwhelming? Are you looking for meaningful work where you can make a real difference in a young person’s life?
We’re looking for a special someone to support a 15yr old with a cognitive disability over the holidays and, ideally, beyond!
She benefits from someone who can be a positive role model, help her understand social cues and relationships, support her English and basic writing, and encourage her to enjoy activities out in the community, including trips to Recreate.
She can become very excited and will test boundaries, so we’re looking for someone who is softly spoken, calm and patient, yet confident and consistent in their approach. You’ll provide clear, gentle guidance, help manage excitement before it escalates, and work closely with the family to establish structured support and consistent boundaries from the outset, building a trusting relationship that lasts beyond the initial honeymoon phase.
You’ll know how to explain things clearly, let her know when she is inappropriate and give consistent instructions. Use simple strategies such as “first this, then that” to help her understand what comes next. You’ll also be happy to take initiative with activities and communicate with mum about plans and progress.
A young woman or student would be ideal, although applicants of any gender and ages are welcome. Reliability over the holidays is important, with the opportunity to continue longer term if it’s a good fit.
The details

- Hours: Flexible days (up to 5 days a week), around 2–7 hours per day
- Commitment: Holiday support, ideally continuing beyond the holidays

If you’re warm, dependable and able to be a calm, steady presence while helping her learn, grow and navigate the world around her, we’d love to hear from you!
