The Power of Good Company | Personal Support Worker – Napier

$23.95–$28.95 per hour | Part-time | Flexible shifts

Are you a warm, respectful and down-to-earth person who enjoys good conversation and helping someone live life on their own terms?

We’re looking for a caring, reliable support worker to work with other carers or one-to-one with a former teacher in her 60's who had a stoke a few years ago.  

She needs support with daily routines and personal care as the stoke left her with paralysis on her left side. She is highly intelligent and enjoys engaging with people and is generally easy going and positive.  She remains active, going to the gym four times a week with her personal trainer and physiotherapist. You’ll help her maintain her routines, stay active and enjoy her day.

You’ll support her with showering, dressing and daily personal care, assist with getting in and out of bed using a hoist, and occasionally accompany her to the gym and on outings. You’ll also prepare breakfast, lunch, and cups of tea and coffee, while providing friendly company, conversation and practical support throughout the day.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is kind, patient, respectful and reliable.

• Treats her as an adult, with dignity and respect.

• Has a natural, friendly manner and enjoys a good conversation.

• Can provide personal care confidently while encouraging independence.

• Understands that supporting someone is about working with them, not taking over.

A friendly, mature approach is important. She doesn’t need a baby voice or someone who treats her like a patient in a care home. She needs someone who sees her as the capable, interesting person she is.

We’re looking for support across three weekdays and one weekend day per week, with hours to be discussed.

Shifts are generally between 8:30am and 8:00pm, with flexibility around the exact start and finish times. There is already support in place, but we do need more help with evening and weekend shifts.  

The practical details

• Location: Napier

• Pay: $23.95–$28.95 per hour

• Transport: A Total Mobility card is available for taxi outings, and you will accompany her when going out.
