Flying Kites | Work from home | Unpaid volunteer project | December to February | 60+ hours

Flying Kites is a charitable trust helping people with disabilities and their whānau across Aotearoa New Zealand find and keep great support people. Since 2021 we’ve supported over 3,000 people. Recruitment is one of our core services, and this summer we want to make it even better.

The project
This is a real project with a start, a middle and an end, and you’ll see it through. If you’re heading for a career in HR or recruitment, you’ll finish with hands-on experience and great stories for your job interviews.

What you’ll do

  • Look for creative solutions to our recruitment challenges, including platforms and approaches we haven’t tried yet
  • Write up our systems and processes so they’re clear and easy to follow
  • Get hands-on with real recruitment, working with applicants and helping match people with disabilities with the right support people

What you’ll get

  • A project you can talk about with confidence on your CV and in interviews
  • Real responsibility in a small, friendly team where your ideas count
  • Regular check-ins and feedback from our founder
  • A reference and a written summary of what you achieved
  • Flexible work from home

Who we’re looking for
Someone motivated, reliable and curious, who cares about people. This suits students in their later years of study, or recent graduates, who are keen on a career in HR, recruitment or a related field.

You’ll be organised, good with detail and warm in the way you communicate. You’ll also be comfortable handling confidential information (you’ll sign a confidentiality agreement).

Lived experience of disability, or a real interest in the disability sector, is welcome but not essential. We’d love to hear from disabled people.

Time commitment
This is a 60+ hour project across the summer. You choose when you work, and we’re flexible around holidays and travel. Most people find a few shorter sessions each week works well.

To apply:

  • A short note about why you’re interested
  • Your availability over summer, including any weeks you’ll be away
  • An example of a project or commitment you’ve followed through, whether at uni, work or in your own time

Applications close 25th November 2026.
