Community Connections Facilitator
South Auckland and work from home | 15 to 20 hours a week | Fixed term to the end of June 2027
Help a young person find their people
Flying Kites supports disabled people and their whānau across Aotearoa New Zealand. We’re a small, friendly, remote team, and we’re looking for someone who is great with people and keen to build connections across South Auckland.
You’ll work one-on-one with a small caseload of rangatahi whaikaha (disabled young people). Disability looks different for everyone, and you might be working with people with any kind of disability (such as a physical or intellectual disability). Every young person is different, and that’s the point.
Your job is to get to know each person: what they love, what they’re good at and where they want to go. Then you’ll help them build real friendships and connections in their community, with people who are there because they want to be.
This could be you if
- You’ve coached or mentored people, in sport, youth groups, cultural groups, tutoring, work or community life
- You’re patient, curious and good at seeing what’s possible for someone
- You know your way around South Auckland, or you’re great at making connections
- You’re comfortable working with whānau and with Māori and Pacific communities
- You can manage your own time and work well on your own
- You have a driver’s licence or the ability to get around the community efficiently
Bonus points for
- Te reo Māori, or a Pacific language
- Lived experience of disability, or experience with disabled people
What you get
- Flexible hours that fit around study and the young people you work with
- A mix of time out in the community and working from home
- An experienced, passionate team who’ll support you, with training as you need it
- Work that makes a real difference
Good to know
This role works with young people, so we’ll complete safety checks, including a Police vet, before you start. We’d love someone to start as soon as possible, who is going to be around for most of the summer.
Apply
Send us a short note about why you’re keen and what experience you’d bring, plus your CV, to jobs@flyingkites.org.nz by 16 November - A voice or video message is fine too. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and abilities, and we’re happy to adjust the process so it works for you.
